For the 16 years that I have ridden at Lucky Star Equine, it has always been the fun and friendly environment that I have thought of as my second home. Vanessa and Janice have always made it their responsibility to make sure that everybody get as much as possible out of every lesson, show team practice, and horse show. I always go home smiling. When I first began to ride, at age 5, I was absolutely terrified to go faster than a walk, but they helped bring up my confidence, ride after ride.  I compete on the horse show team, own my own horse that I am learning to train through the colt training program, and I'm at the barn almost everyday. They have  given me so many opportunities to improve my riding, and they provided me lifelong friendships. They always put the horses first, and their knowledge seems to be never ending. I have learned so much over the last 16 years!

Lucky Star Equine provides a safe, friendly atmosphere for me to develop riding skills at my maturing age. Even if you don't have a horse, they have many well mannered school horses of varying levels providing opportunities to anybody of any age at any skill level. I always look forward to showing with Lucky Star and love the supportive nature of their group. Having the group support and mentor - is an incredible confidence builder!!! Lucky Star Equine has opened equine doors that before, I couldn't figure out how to open on my own!! I really desire to reach a higher level - whether it be at reining or  ranch versatility.  Our daughter Isla started riding with Vanessa & Janice in 2008 at the age of 8. It became quickly apparent to us that this would be “horse home” for our horse crazed daughter. Over the years we have greatly appreciated the level of patience and understanding that Vanessa exudes to her riders. It is most certainly not a “one size” fits all teaching experience as we watch Vanessa  and Janice train riders of all ages, disciplines and confidence levels with expertise and encouragement. This is definitely a safe environment for anyone to learn horsemanship from the ground up – from how to muck out a stall properly, trailer a horse, monitor your horse’s health, train your horse from the ground to the finer details of English & Western equitation. I have loved horses my whole life but never had the opportunity to ride until age 44 when I too started riding with Vanessa. She has given me an experience with horses that I cherish and has made one of my dreams come true – for that I will be forever grateful. In the past few years, my husband John & our younger daughter Grace have also started taking lessons from Vanessa & Janice. Even though we are at different levels Janice & Vanessa have helped us take some lessons together as a family which has been a great experience and we have even done trail rides together at Lucky Star. Visits to “the barn”, along with fun field trips, lessons & summer shows has become a weekly routine for us and we definitely feel like we are part of the “Lucky Star Family.” We’d encourage any family with an interest in horses to try Lucky Star – you may never want to leave!
